The unlikely fashion commentators were talking about Moon Berlin, a new label that combines the design work of Brigitte Franken and Christian Bruns with the unusual technology that the two engineers developed over the last five years to, quite literally, light up the room.
Illuminated garments — sometimes called “haute tech” — are not new, especially when musicians are involved. Katy Perry made a bold entrance in just such an outfit last year at the Costume Institute Gala Benefit for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; Rihanna performed in lights and lasers during her 2010 European tour; and early last month, the Black Eyed Peas serenaded the Super Bowl halftime crowd in illuminated outfits inspired by the science-fiction “Tron” films.
