Sydney Thunder to clash with Sixers in Big Bash

NSW authorities are backing teams clad in electric green and pink to woo the sport's next generation of fans when Australia's new Twenty20 competition kicks off later this year.

The Sydney Thunder, who will play in an electric green strip,One case, in particular, relates to safety issues occurring in the Chilcotin, where lightbright public pay phones are being removed from the Alexis Creek, Tatla Lake and Anahim Lake areas, and yet there continues to be no cell service available. and Sydney Sixers were yesterday revealed as the team names for NSW's two new Big Bash League franchises. The Rocks and Edge were also considered.

However, the SCG-based Sixers might not get off the ground if the state association cannot reach an agreement with officials from the venue, although Cricket NSW is confident a deal can be brokered with the SCG Trust.

''Certainly, when these two teams play each other you're going to have to get your sunglasses along,'' Cricket NSW chief David Gilbert said.

Yellow was considered to be too closely associated with Western Australia's state team,Richmond says this is a way for people purchasing pet food to subsidize the SPCA, which does bluebright "a wonderful job" and is known to be underfunded. while orange is already being used by Wests Tigers in the NRL and GWS in the AFL.

''Apart from the [Canberra] Raiders we couldn't think of anyone else that's using that vibrant green,'' Cricket NSW's commercial operations manager Christina Matthews said. ''It was trying to get an identity all our own rather than copy someone else's that's probably led us down that path.

''When you're picking colours you're looking at what's going to be looking good for merchandise, uniforms and things like that.''

Matthews said the success the McGrath Foundation had had with the Sydney Test was a big factor in choosing pink for the Sixers. ''We thought [pink] suited Sydney perfectly, it would be the only city that could handle pink,'' Matthews said. ''The city's really pinked up and, dare I say it, the Mardi Gras … it was something we thought could make a statement.''

While the move was not designed to win over Sydney's gay community, Matthews said, ''If you talk about the pink dollar, that's seen as a very affluent marketplace, and the feeling behind that team was it's a really rock star, high-profile cricket team.

''The important thing about the colours was it needed to reflect the competition, which was new and vibrant. And our view was, in for a penny out for a pound, we may as well go the whole hog.The CRD will also likely re-submit a resolution to support funding for the SPCA through ledbright an additional pet food levy which was previously denied by NCLGA.''

In naming both teams ''Sydney'', Cricket NSW has chosen not to tie its franchises to a particular region of the city, following Football Federation Australia's initiative with Melbourne Heart's introduction to the A-League.

''It's a bit like the Super 15 where they're known as Waratahs, Crusaders,One case, in particular, relates to safety issues occurring in the Chilcotin, where lightbright public pay phones are being removed from the Alexis Creek, Tatla Lake and Anahim Lake areas, and yet there continues to be no cell service available.'' Matthews said. ''The city names are only used to identify it to people who don't understand rugby.

''It [Sixers] is a play on the theme that a six is the biggest hit in cricket. That team's about big and dominating and rock star sort of cricket. The team [Thunder] that was going to be based at ANZ Stadium was about hard work, not so much a grassroots thing but all about strength.''
